Frantoio Sociale is a research project that investigates the potential of demolition through a circular interpretation.
The attempt of this project is to make demolition accessible to all, a social and collaborative practice, and an opportunity for exchange and collective growth.
An important and crucial issue in the architectural field is the search for viable and alternative solutions with respect to mining that can replace materials and resources from mining processes. One of the possible solutions is the transformation of material already in circulation which, once its original function is exhausted, takes the form of demolition waste.
The performance that will take place at Bricheco Milano will be an opportunity to experiment and share practices and ideas around the theme of circular materials and production processes.
We invite participants and people interested in the workshop to bring inert materials - bricks, marble, tiles, glass, ceramics, tiles, stones, plaster, etc. - to be transformed through a crushing process carried out with the Crunchy Compact crusher.
The performance is structured in two phases, the first will be dedicated to mapping the context where it is possible to analyze and find different inert materials, and the second will consist of various cycles of crushing and grinding of materials with different finishes, and weights and chromatic scales.
From the different moments of grinding, “souvenirs” will then be produced containing the mapped, catalogued and crushed materials.
About the facilitators:
Alessandro Mason
He is a designer; after graduation in 2010 he founded Studio GISTO. He currently teaches at the Faculty of Design and Art of the UNIBZ, at the Faculty of Product Design at the IUAV in Venice.
Matteo Giustozzi
Designer and craftsman graduated in Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano. His strong interest in materials research and experimentation led him to develop a theoretical approach and practices with which he organizes workshops and courses at various institutions, including, the University of San Marino, Nid Perugia, and Unicam Ascoli Piceno.
