Isola Design Community - Emma Scully Curates Cast Iron Exhibition Minimizing Environmental Impact On The Planet Cast Iron, an exhibition going from May 13 to June 25th, 2021 in Emma Scully Gallery in the Upper East Side of Manhattan is featuring works by Chenand Kai, Brecht Wright Gander Studio, Ryan Decker, Tellurico (Isola Design Community Member), Faissal El-Malak, Bradley L Bowers, Charlotte Kingsnorth, Nel Verbeke. In this series Emma Scully have commissioned eight disparate voices to create work in cast iron; young designers making digital files materialized in a symbol of the 19th century industrial revolution. A marriage of the material origins of industrial making and current digital hyper-connectively of design ideas. She puts to use globalized production system, buying ideas not goods, shipping digital files not tons of iron. Pieces are produced close to buyers in order to minimize environmental impact of production and sale. She aims for co-opting and inverting the intricate global system of production by using American industry to produce a global scope of design. The process of producing the edition itself becoming a commentary on our global consumer society.
