Biodesign Challenge (BDC) is an interdisciplinary education program and competition that works with students to create projects that bridge art, design, and biotechnology, a rapidly emerging field that is becoming ubiquitous to our products and processes. The program was founded on the belief that science needs art and design to creatively, equitably, and sustainably integrate emerging technologies into society. To support the instructors leading the BDC courses, we provide biodesign curricula, instructional webinars, resource libraries, videos, open advisory sessions, and expert consultant matchmaking.

Every June, the year concludes with a week-long Summit held at the Museum of Modern Art and Parsons School of Design where teams from each school showcase their ideas to 40+ judges from across industry, academia, the arts and to the broader public. One team is awarded the grand prize, the Glass Microbe, which is passed down between winning teams each year. BDC continues to support alumni if they turn their project into startups or exhibit in museums and galleries.
